  1. Hi everyone and thank you for visiting. Unearthly Tales is a journey of writing and a love of science fiction. I will be sharing some of my journey, writing creation of characters and where the story is headed.

  4. Pottery: By John Sparks

In due time we see it all. How words can flavor one and all. From page to page and in sight. How it reads in the light. From twist to twist, Ideas reborn. A passion it does form. Of the mind and of the heart. Dreams that do not part. A dream of now and of latter, a life full of flavor.

  5. Something I wanted to share in writing UNEARTHLY TALES. In my writing I found if I created elements of the story it helped me understand how the story needed to unfold. Here is an example on first page of my story.

(Arseina: Named after the god of endurance, thought to have helped the early Arseina civilization endure and survive that world’s cold climate, in the year 01 (Twelve World Common Time) T.W.C.T or pre-T.W.C.T 36719.

Guild historical addendum: The Twelve-World Federation was established in the year pre- T.W.C.T 36719. Arseina’s native calendar appears to have been constructed with astronomical teachings from the gods. It was established in pre-T.W.C.T year 03 by observing Arseina’s planetary rotations: 437 rotations to complete one solar year. In the year 01 T.W.C.T Arseina’s first colony was granted self-governance. This was when the Twelve-World Federation compact was agreed to, naming Alerium, the city of enlightenment, as the capital city of the Twelve-World Federation. This action was taken despite the fact that no new suitable worlds had been found for settlement.

    Guild historical records)

A quick historical record, helped define how the story would unfold.
    1) Planet Arseina - extreme cold.
    2) Definition of calendar needed through out story.
    3) Space based civilization not wanting to be trapped on there world.
    4) Twelve World Federation, even though only one world found that can be used.

This elements help shape the 6 elements need.
    - What happened.
    - Where did it happen.
    - When did it happen.
    - Who was involved.
    - How did it happen.
    - Why did it happen.

Frame work for scene or plot line. Every thing else is details.
I hope you find this useful.

  6. Thoughts and perspectives of a writer.

The voice of life starts in simple forms. Crawling learning to stand, running and never wanting to stop. In my life I could say nothing was fair. I was born a month early. I couldn’t hear until the age of four (4). At the age of three (3) I was trampled by a cow, while trying to defend its baby from our dogs’ curiosity. I repeated the first grade. At the age of …….. I was bucked off a horse and knocked out by the fall. My father carried my unconscious body into the house. My mother thought I was dead.

I discovered how much I loved reading in the third grade. I was crazy about the hard-bound, Mickey Mouse comic books….you know the ones that were as big as the school desktops. I also fell in love with Star Trek: Which Way series….those books where you can choose the main character’s next path and how the story will end. The pure love I found in being able to immerse myself in the story and make Captain Kirk’s next decision, drove me to read. When the Commadore 64 showed up in class, my love of science and science fiction grew, even though my learning was plagued by dyslexia. By the time I was in 5th and 6th grade, I was reading at a 12th-grade reading level. Whenever I could, I was at the library checking out books on history, science fiction, national geographic magazines, and newspapers.

Over the years, as I grew up, I did what many do…..I drifted away from my childhood fascinations and began thinking of my future as an adult. Have you ever pursued different course in life only to not find your happy place? A place where you are doing what makes you happy? I tried the Marine Corp for a while. A steady job. It was ideal for most, but not me. I tried several different colleges, studying courses on diesel-engine repair, computer science, and culinary arts. I tried a vast array of trades. I even did a few years of Xerox Copy Machine repair work, Pizza Hut manager, and maintenance work. I even went to Texas A&M College and received training in the Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Technician Course. Nothing I’ve done has ever brought me true happiness. Perhaps my Attention Deficit Disorder has played a role in my dissatisfaction with every job I’ve ever explored, or I have been pursuing the wrong course based on an ideology of what a “grown up” is supposed to do and be.

It never occurred to me that my passion for reading and writing could be as sustainable as any career choice I have ever made. The one love I have had throughout my life, the constant that has been my comfort through my long weekends and hours after work, has been writing. Writing short stories, poetry, random thoughts in a dozen journals….writing has always been my escape, my joy. Writing has become a place of self-discovery, therapy, passion, and hope. I am continuing to study how to improve my writing. I’ve even taken to reading again, for pleasure and for the learning experience. I can see where and how I may need to improve my own skills through the works of others who choose to share their own challenges and struggles in life. And if all else fails, I have “Castle.” The television show has been a great escape and helps me stay focused on my dreams. Wouldn’t you love to be that famous writer with all the options? Do anything, be anything?

For me, writing is a continuation of dreams and never growing up. I can be who I am supposed to be through my writing. I can be the child with the imagination to make my dreams soar; and the adult to make those dreams a reality through the ink in my pen, and the paper before me.
